Single Estate Tea
This rare and special tea is made purely from Camellia sinensis leaves from the Tregothnan estate. Light and delicate flavours of the most British tea in history are created far inland in the warm and wet climate on the banks of the deep sea creek of the Fal. Many of the tea bushes now producing the finest teas made their way from China in the 1840’s via Darjeeling, finally reaching Tregothnan in 1999. The soils and temperatures at Tregothnan have become second home to much of the flora associated with tea in Darjeeling and some aficionados note muscatel notes and even Magnolia florals from the famous Magnolia campbellii. The UK’s first outdoor ornamental Camellias are vibrantly approaching their fourth century and grow all around these tea bushes, testament to the truly unique Tregothnan microclimate.
Infuse at 80c in filtered or naturally soft water. No milk or other additions required to taste but this tea is incredible adaptable and compliments a great range of other ingredients in the cup if you wish to experiment. Tregothnan honey is a particular favourite. Re-infuse the leaves as many times as you choose, the record is 12 infusions, equating to 12 cups of tea from 3 grams.
Tregothnan’s new Spitfire Tea is a celebration of the brave men and women who protected our skies since the first RAF planes flew 100 years ago. The iconic Spitfire plane is a symbol of British strength and valour. On 1 April 2018, the Royal Air Force will be celebrating its 100th birthday. To mark this occasion, we have blended this bold, malty English RAF 100 tea – Spitfire Tea, using our homegrown leaves from our Cornish tea plantations. This commemorative tea raises money for the RAF Benevolent Fund who have been supporting the RAF family since 1919. This robust Spitfire Tea is the kind of brew that would have kept our troops hydrated and motivated for action. Set on the banks of the River Fal from which the D Day landings embarked in 1944, Tregothnan shares a great history with the RAF.
Fresh plucked tea from the each season’s flush can be despatched every weekday from Tregothnan. The leaves are transported to you overnight ready for you to enjoy immediately or store for a few days in the refrigerator. This decadent and delicious tea is lightly scented with the flowers from the tea bushes themselves, the rarest and most elegant varieties ever grown.
