Tregothnan has a long and distinguished history of plant cultivation and has been home to Camellias for the last 200 years. We offer rare varieties in a range glorious colours. Tregothnan was home to the first outdoor Camellias in the UK and the country’s first Camellia Sinensis. Unlike tea bushes supplied as seedlings, our Camellia Sinensis plants have been nurtured from cuttings and will happily allow you to grow your own tea in the correct conditions. Our two year old tea bushes are approximately 10-15cm tall with dark green thick leaves and delicate white blossoms when in flower.
The Tregothnan big plant service is a highly specialised, web-based service with individual plants selected to meet the customer’s exact specifications. Our most regularly ordered plants include palms (trachycarpus), rhododendrons and camellias. Most varieties are at least one metre high, but palms can be as high as six metres. New varieties are being introduced all the time, including the New Zealand Christmas Tree (metrosideros), and hedges that can be ordered by the metre for instant screening.
Manuka has been grown on the Tregothnan estate since it was first introduced to the UK in the 1800’s. Honey created by bees fed exclusively on its flowers is famous for its medicinal properties. When infused, Manuka has a wonderful, sweet and spicy flavour quite unlike anything else.
